Riverside County Registrar of Voters Rebecca Spencer has been placed on paid administrative leave from her position.
At the Tuesday, Sept. 12 board meeting, the supervisors met in closed session for a “Public Employee Performance Evaluation/Title: Registrar of Voters.” On Wednesday, Spencer’s administrative leave was revealed in a story from the Press Enterprise.
“Chief Operating Officer Juan Perez, from the County’s Executive Office, will work closely with the department’s leadership team and dedicated staff to continue to prepare for upcoming elections and to ensure the delivery of services for the communities we serve,” wrote Yaoska Machado, senior public information specialist for the county.
According to the county, “This is a personnel matter and no additional information will be available until after the next Board of Supervisors’ meeting,” which is scheduled for Sept. 26.
Spencer joined the Registrar’s Office in 1999 as an intern. Since then she has served as on staff, as chief deputy registrar, assistant registrar and twice as interim registrar until her appointment as registrar in 2014. Both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees are from the University of California, Riverside. She is a member of the California Association of Clerks and Election Officials and the Certified Election and Registration Association.
