Scott was born on April 23, 1974 in Covina, Calif., and passed away on Sept. 8, 2010 in Hemet, Calif.

He is survived by his father, Michael Carlson; his mother, Marilynn Carlson; grandmother Dorothy Ensley; fiancée Amanda Anderson; and his Fire Department family.

Firefighter Carlson had a long career and a love for public service dating back to 1995. He was a volunteer firefighter at Riverside County Fire stations 23 and 78. Scott also worked for the United Stated Forest Service in 2000. In 1998, Scott came to work at the Idyllwild Fire Protection District as a Paid Call Firefighter and became a full-time firefighter and emergency medical technican in 2005.

Scott lived in Idyllwild, Calif., for most of his life, recently moving into his new home in Hemet, Calif. Scott was a great mechanic and loved spending time working on anything four-wheel drive with an engine. As a member of the Hemet Jeep Club, Scott enjoyed every outing he could attend, his favorite of which would be Moab, Utah.

Scott graduated from Alessandro High School and went on to receive his degree in Fire Science from Mt. San Jacinto College in San Jacinto, Calif. Scott also received numerous other fire-related certifications. Scott was named Firefighter of the Year in 2005. Scott worked on numerous wildland fires throughout California; he truly enjoyed his work.

A viewing was held on Sept. 11 at the McWane Family funeral home in Hemet. A memorial service be held oat 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18 at the Idyllwild Pines Camp, Emerson Field. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations in Scott’s name may be sent to the Wildland Firefighters Foundation, 2049 Airport Way, Boise, ID 83705.
