The 44-year-old male who lost his life in a traffic collision on Highway 74 in July has been identified as Keith Marlin of Anza.
At about 9:20 p.m. Friday, July 20, a sedan traveled off of the roadway, causing fatal injuries to the driver, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Marlin was driving a 1998 Mercedes Benz E320 westbound on Highway 74, west of Palowet Drive. For reasons still under investigation, the Mercedes traveled off of the roadway and overturned.
The driver of the vehicle was not wearing his seatbelt and was ejected during the collision. There were no passengers in the Mercedes.
According to California Highway Patrol Public Information Officer Darren Meyer and involved parties, at about 1:43 p.m. Tuesday, July 31, James Pomeroy, 74, of Idyllwild, was traveling southbound on Highway 243 north of Vista Grande Road, when for unknown reasons, he lost control of his silver 2018 Subaru Forester, crossing over the northbound lane and running into a parked yellow 2017 GSXR Suzuki motorcycle, then traveling in a southeasterly direction down a dirt embankment into bushes and boulders. The female motorcyclist/witness, Corylee Sagandoy, 28, of Grand Terrace, had pulled into a turnout to take photos of the landscape, standing about 1 foot from her motorcycle when it was struck. She was uninjured, while Pomeroy suffered minor injuries and was transported by American Medical Response to San Gorgonio Memorial Hospital for evaluation. Idyllwild Garage towed the Subaru.
