Long-time Idyllwild resident David Norton, 71, died Monday, Aug. 18, 2008, after a long battle with prostate cancer.

Mr. Norton was born in March 1937 in Fall River, Mass. David graduated from the University of the Pacific in 1962 with a degree in civil engineering.

He worked as a registered civil engineer for many companies, and retired from Caltrans in 1999. During his career, he also worked as the water engineer for the City of Morro Bay, and obtained a contractor’s license when he decided he would like to build custom homes.

In 1990, he moved to Idyllwild, fixed up the cabin his parents had bought in the 1940s and spent his time enjoying the beautiful mountain scenery.

In accordance with his wishes, his ashes were scattered off the coast of Dana Point in a small, private ceremony. He will be missed by all of us who loved him, and his memory will remain in our hearts.

Mr. Norton is survived by his two daughters, Nadiene Kuhn and Diane Smith; sons-in-law Francis Kuhn and Michael Smith; his two sisters, Janet Reynolds and Arlene Pierce; five grandchildren; and his nieces and nephews and their children. He is also survived by his former wife, Martha Coltrin deBlois. He was predeceased by his brother, Richard Norton, and his parents, George and Lenora Norton.
