Herbert Edward Davis, 62, died of a heart attack on Sunday, July 23, 2000.

Mr. Davis was born July 15, 1938, in Wisconsin Rapids, Wis. He moved to San Jacinto in 1954 and graduated from San Jacinto High School in 1957.

Mr. Davis and his wife Frances were married for 43 years. They moved to Idyllwild from Riverside five years ago.

He worked for Pacific Bell for 37 years, and retired October 28, 1994. He joined the Mountain Community Patrol (MCP) on Dec. 13, 1995 and was MCP President for two years. After stepping down for one year, he accepted the position again and was the current president when he died. Serving the community through the MCP was very important in his life.

He founded the MCP Community Service Scholarship Program at Idyllwild School, and has been a volunteer there, helping primary grades with reading since the fall of 1995.

Mr. Davis also belonged to the German Shepherd Dog Club of Riverside and San Bernardino counties. His hobbies included wood shop, photography and barbecuing. About Mr. Davis, his wife said, “He was such a neat guy. Always had fun doing whatever.”

Visitation for friends is from 5 to 8 p.m. at Miller-Jones Mortuary and Crematory, 1501 West Florida Ave., Hemet. No service is planned.

Besides his wife, Mr. Davis is survived by a son, Gene Davis of Highland; a daughter, Kathy Siglock of Canyon Lake; a brother, Jerry Davis of Los Angeles; and two grandchildren, Trevor Siglock of Canyon Lake, and Sean Simpson of Riverside.
