Former Pine Cove resident Joy Lindley passed away on Sept. 2, 2010, in Fountain Valley, Calif., from the long-term effects of a stroke.

Mrs. Lindley was born in 1923 in St. Louis, Mo., and first came to California in 1941 after her marriage to her husband, Cooper, an aircraft engineer. Although Mrs. Lindley was primarily a homemaker, she obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Interior Design in 1965.

After living in both seaside and desert communities, and upon Cooper’s retirement from North American Aviation, they moved to Idyllwild, finding Pine Cove to be the perfect retirement retreat. Joy and Cooper, who operated Pine Cove Realty until his death in 1988, lived in Pine Cove for 25 years. Ill health finally required Joy to move to Orange County to live with her daughter, Claudia.

Joy was a member of the Philanthropic Educational Organization (P.E.O.) and was a Rotary Ann, but her proudest accomplishments were heading the annual Idyllwild Friends of the Library book sale held every Memorial Day weekend and her particiption in the Literacy Program. She also worked as a tireless volunteer in the Hemet Hospice Thrift Store until her move off the Hill.

She is survived by her sister, Jayne, of Olathe, Kan., daughters Diane O’Bannon of Los Angeles, Calif., and Claudia Tropila of Fountain Valley, Calif., as well as five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Services for Ms. Lindley will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in her name may be made to the Friends of the Idyllwild Library.
