William Henry Butterfield, 90, died of heart disease at his Idyllwild home Sunday, Dec. 10, 2000. Mr. Butterfield was born July 5, 1910, in Norfolk, Neb.

He obtained his bachelorÍs degree from the University of Nebraska and a masterÍs degree from the University of Oklahoma. He was a self-employed author for 20 years and a correspondence consultant.

Mr. Butterfield was the author of the Town Crier column, ñ How we use words,î which ran in 1997.

He enjoyed the outdoors, writing, traveling and football and had been a resident of Idyllwild for 31 years. Prior to that, he was a resident of Palm Desert for two years.

Visitation is from 9:30 to 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 14, at McWane Family Funeral Home in Hemet. Graveside services follow at 10:30 a.m. at San Jacinto Valley Cemetery in San Jacinto.

Besides his wife of 35 years, Betty Butterfield, he is survived by a son, W.H. Butterfield Jr. of Dallas; two grandsons, Brian Butterfield of Portland, Ore. and David Butterfield of Waco, Texas; and a stepson, Thomas J. Doak of Albuquerque, N.M.

The family requests that memorial contributions to his memory be made to the University of Nebraska Scholarship Foundation, 1111 Lincoln Mall, Ste. 200, Lincoln, Neb. 68588-0650.
