Paul L. Galliher, age 90, passed away on Sunday, May 2, 2010 from natural causes at the Veteran’s Hospital in Murfreesboro, Tenn. He was born Nov. 26, 1919 in Fairfield, Iowa, the son of Harry and Grace Galliher.

Paul is survived by his wife of 64 years, Charlotte Galliher; daughters Jan (Martin) Meister of Spring Hill, Tenn., Nancy (Bob) Davis of Idyllwild, Calif. and Cheryl (Brice) Bennett of Brentwood, Tenn.; grandchildren Stephanie Wilkerson, Catherine Duarte and Brian Bennett; and three great-grandsons, Elijah, Caden and Malachi Wilkerson. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Daniel Davis.

Paul graduated from Malvern High School in 1937. During World War II he enlisted in the Iowa National Guard and served as a member of the famous 34th Infantry Red Bull Division. Paul served in Co M 168th Infantry in the European African Middle Eastern Campaign and was a POW in Germany for two years. He served as a corporal in the Army and received a promotion to sergeant upon his release.

Paul and Charlotte made their home and raised their children in California, where he retired after 35 years with General Telephone Co. Paul was a member of Pomona Masonic Lodge 246 for 34 years and after moving with his wife to Idyllwild, he joined Yucaipa Masonic Lodge 668 where he served as Master Mason in 1985. Paul received his 50-Year Anniversary Award in 2007. Mr. and Mrs. Galliher moved to Spring Hill, Tenn., in 2001.

He was buried in the Middle Tenn. State Veteran’s Cemetery with military honors.
