On Sept. 10, 2011, at 4 p.m., deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department responded to the area of the Marion Mountain Trail near Idyllwild. California State Parks staff had received information that a hiker had been injured on the trail and contacted the Sheriff’s Department to mobilize the Riverside County Mountain Rescue Unit (RMRU).

Les Walker and Don Goetz, RMRU members, and Robert Peek and Sue Neary, California State Park rangers, began their search from the Marion Mountain campground.

After going about a mile up the mountain, the rescuers encountered the hiker and her male companion.

She had a severely lacerated leg wound, according to Walker. After examining and re-bandaging the wound, the two hikers were escorted to the campground where an Idyllwild Fire Department ambulance took them to Hemet Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
