“I am deeply humbled to have been chosen to serve on the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs,” said Congressman Ruiz in a press release. “My top priority in Congress is serving others, and this position will allow me to work with both Democrats and Republicans to make a meaningful impact in the lives of veterans in the 36th District and across the nation.

“I look forward to applying my knowledge of public health to my work on the Committee to ensure our veterans are receiving the high-quality health care and benefits they deserve,” he added.

The House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs has jurisdiction over legislation pertaining to veterans’ benefits and is responsible for authorization and oversight of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The committee handles issues pertaining to veterans’ health care, disability compensation, the GI Bill, job training, life insurance policies, and the national veterans’ cemetery system.
