Jim Crandall, Palms to Pines Golf Association handicap chair, provided this report about the Friday, March 15, golf tournament.

The club held its regular monthly tournament at the Temecula Creek Inn Golf Course on the Creeks to Oaks links. The day was sunny and clear, and the course was in excellent shape. The front nine features trees and water hazards while the back nine adds hilly fairways to the mix.

Gary Brown (course handicap 15), took first place with a net 71, Bruce Marley (11) and Les Widerynski (14) tied for second with net 74s, and Chuck Alkire (12) and Robert Priefer (25) tied for fourth with net 75s.

The four closest-to-the-pin contests were won by Brown on Creek hole no. 2, Alkire on Creek hole no. 7, Jim Crandall on Oaks hole no. 3, and Pete Capparelli on Oaks hole no. 6.

Points are awarded at each tournament as follows: first place, 6 points; second place, 4 points; third place, 3 points; fourth place, 2 points; fifth place, 1 point. In addition, one-half point is awarded to everyone who participates.

The top eight point finishers of the year go into match-play playoffs for the club championship in August, September and October. A member has to compete in at least five regular season tournaments and have a handicap no greater than 24.4 in order to qualify for the playoffs.

The club is a member of the Southern California Golf Association and is sanctioned to establish SCGA handicaps for members.
