The Idyllwild Community Fund Advisory Committee is throwing a party and everyone is invited.
Enjoy a fine wine bar, craft beer by local brewer Don Put, appetizers, desserts and music, from classical to jazz, including Idyllwild’s dean of jazz Marshall Hawkins, with Jac and Luca Jacaruso and Two t’ Suite, featuring Juliana Buffum Holmes and Nelms McKelvain.
The event is from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 3, in the garden at the Rainbow Inn. Admission is free. And you have a chance to make money and help your community.
Here’s how: Bring a treasure you hoped one day to sell for profit. The item can be valued from $25 to $300, on average — home furnishings, jewelry, art objects, rare books, china, leather, silver — whatever you have that is wonderful and valuable but needs to move on.
You set your minimum price for a silent-auction table display. You can receive up to 75 percent of the sale, with 25 percent going to ICF to help Idyllwild students. Or, you can elect to donate more than 25 percent, even the entire sale price of your item. All donations to ICF are tax-deductible and are used to improve and enrich the lives of Idyllwild residents through grants to local nonprofits.
The limit is three items per person and no clothing donations are permitted. If your item does not meet your minimum bid, you should take it home after the event. Items should be brought starting at 3:30 p.m. that day to allow time to set up display tables.
With this event, just as it does throughout the year, the ICF Advisory Committee is working to improve the quality of life for everyone in the Idyllwild area. In existence since the mid-1990s, ICF uses interest from a fund established by local donors to make possible certain projects that enrich the community — whether propane and firewood for the needy, art education for Idyllwild School students, equipment for local disaster relief groups, or scholarships and outdoor education field trips for Idyllwild students.
This year’s event will help fund the Idyllwild Youth Grantmakers, an after-school educational initiative for Idyllwild Middle School students that teaches them the value of giving back to their community. These students review grant proposals, conduct site visits, and at the end of an eight-week training session, award nearly $4,000 in grants to local nonprofits whose mission includes issues that matter to young people.
