The Annual Idyllwild Health Fair will be Saturday, Oct. 24, at the Fern Creek Medical Center.

Free flu shots will again be available during the fair as well as nutritional counseling and screening examinations for blood sugar, blood pressure, visual acuity and body fat.

Also Covered California will be represented. Individuals may enroll that day or get Medicare counseling.

“This is great for the community,” said Dr. Dick Goldberg, who has organized the Health Fair for many years. “The flu shots are very important. Flu can be terrible for those over 65.” He stressed that the vaccine is not a live vaccine so there is no risk of getting the flu from the shot itself.

New this year will be members of the Idyllwild Health Alliance, Goldberg said. The Health Alliance is more than medical specialists. It includes practitioners of many healing methods such as therapeutic massage, acupressure and acupuncture, rehabilitation, strength and cardio training and conditioning, dentistry, nutrition, yoga and self-defense.

The lead for this endeavor is the practice of Dr. Kenneth C. Browning and his staff, according to Bryan Asch of REPS Training Centers.

The Oct. 24 Health Fair will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Fern Creek Medical Center. Dr. Browning has provided the location for the fair and the Idyllwild HELP Center is a co-sponsor.
