A 5.2 magnitude earthquake occurred about 1:05 a.m. Friday morning 13 miles north of Borrego Springs and 18 miles south of Palm Desert. The quake was easily felt on the Hill. A 3.5 magnitude quake in the same area followed about 1:33 a.m.

While no damage has been reported, houses in Idyllwild shook for several seconds during the quake.

Dr. Jennifer Andrews of the Southern California Seismic Network, posted the following note on its site (www.scsn.org/), “Aftershocks: so far (10 Jun 2016, 06:08AM PDT) there have been 351 aftershocks recorded, the largest [being a] M3.5. More than 30 events have been greater than M2. More may be expected in the next few days, the largest expected is approximately 1 magnitude unit smaller than the mainshock. There is a small chance (about 5%) that a larger quake could occur, with the likelihood decreasing over time.”

About 1:45 a.m., another series of tremors occurred about 13 miles east southeast of Anza. The first quake in this area was magnitude 3.3
