Idyllwild resident Ted Janka was the grand prizewinner of the Purina Pro Plan 10 of 10 Best in Show Sweepstakes. His name was randomly selected from hundreds of entries received.

The sweepstakes promoted the recent Westminister Dog Show. Janka’s entry was randomly selected and he chose the $3,000 prize money. His option was a trip to New York City to attend the Westminster show.

With his prize, Janka told Purina he will use the money for remodeling his Idyllwild property.

Purina Pro Plan sponsored the sweepstakes, which was open to all individuals with military status, and ran from Sept. 7 to 16, 2016. Entrance was available in all Navy Exchange Command stores across the country and through mymilitarysavings.com.

Janka is the spouse of a retired U.S. Navy veteran. He has two dogs and two cats — Stella is an 11-year-old yellow Lab and Svarta is a 4-year-old black Lab. Ted’s two domestic short-haired cats are Silver, a 16-year-old, and Paka, a 14-year-old.

“The loyalty between our servicemen and servicewomen and their pets is an unbreakable bond. It is an honor to be able to recognize an individual like Ted and his selfless service for our country,” said Debbie Kesler, Nestlé-Purina Military account manager.
