Last week, middle-school and secondary-school students took time out of the classroom to express their support for gun legislation. The walkout was for 17 minutes, one for each of the student and faculty victims at the Parkland, Florida, shooting.
The nationwide event did not pass by Idyllwild. Students at both the Idyllwild Arts Academy and Idyllwild School participated.
Idyllwild Arts had students go to the Holmes Amphitheatre and Idyllwild School students assembled at the front of the school.
Nationwide, there were incidents and students opposed to the message, but the walkouts on the Hill and throughout the Hemet Unified School District created no incidents that required any intervention.
Another nationwide walk out is being planned for April 20, the 19th anniversary of the Columbine shootings.
