A two-car collision occurred at 2:55 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10, on Highway 74 at Apple Canyon Road, according to California Highway Patrol Public Information Officer Darren Meyer. A gray 2010 Ford Fusion driven by Hugo Ponce, 17, of Banning, collided with a gray 2018 Nissan Altima driven by Chad Cedarvall, 27, of San Clemente.

Ponce was driving his Fusion eastbound, then slowed to make a left turn onto Apple Canyon while the Nissan Altima was heading westbound coming up to the intersection of Apple Canyon. Ponce made a left turn in front of the Nissan and the cars collided. The Fusion was driven from the scene, the Altima was towed to Idyllwild Garage. No injuries to either party were reported.

At 7:55 a.m. Friday, Sept. 7, on Highway 74, a half-mile west of Santa Rosa Road, a single-vehicle crash was reported. A gray 2012 Hundai Sonata driven by Brandon Webster, 26, of Palm Desert, collided with a tree. No one else was in the vehicle. Webster was transported by American Medical Response to Eisenhower Medical Center and his vehicle was towed by Valley Auto of Anza.

    At right, on Monday night, Idyllwild Fire Protection District, California Highway Patrol, Idyllwild Garage and Riverside County Sheriff responded to a two-vehicle traffic collision at the intersection of Tollgate Road and Lake Lane. According to CHP Officer David Kling, Steve Schell (center, brown shirt) of Long Beach was driving his 2000 Ford Mustang heading toward Highway 243 and was signaling to turn left onto Lake Lane. Steven Howlett, 23, of Idyllwild, was behind Schell driving his white Honda Civic and attempted to pass Howlett on the left as he was turning left, colliding at the intersection and sending Howlett into a tree stump. No one was injured in the collision, but Tollgate Road was limited to one lane of traffic for approximately three hours.
