Mary LaVonne Emerson

Mary LaVonne Emerson of Simi Valley, born in Duluth, Minnesota on Oct. 8, 1930, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Monday, Oct. 8, 2018, at the age of 88.

A remarkable mother, grandmother, friend and teacher, LaVonne’s trademark was her selfless giving. She was always first to offer a helping hand and could always be counted on and relied upon.

LaVonne was raised in San Diego, the youngest daughter of George and Pearl Montgomery.  She graduated with honors and as class president from Our Lady of Peace Academy, and was one of the first graduates to complete a nursing degree at Mercy Hospital School of Nursing.

LaVonne worked as a registered nurse in various Southern California hospitals for over 40 years, dedicating her professional life to helping care for those in need. This was truly her calling.

She is survived by her children Jim (Doreen), Patrice (Neil), Chris (Robyn), Mark (Dolly), Brian (Yasmin), Tim and Robert (Rebecca); 18 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and her sister Shirley.  She was preceded in death by her husband Bob and beloved baby girl Mary Eileen.

LaVonne was a wonderful and strong woman, the matriarch of her family.  She always had a smile and a kind word to say to everyone she met. Her bright blue eyes were welcoming and always made you feel special. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Daily Prayer: Mighty God, Father of all, Compassionate God, Mother of all, bless every person I have met, every face I have seen, every voice I have heard, especially those most dear; bless every city, town and street that I have known, bless every sight I have seen, every sound I have heard, every object I have touched. In some mysterious way these have all fashioned my life; all that I am I have received. Great God, bless the world.
