Leigh Humphrey passed away peacefully Thursday, Oct. 26, 2023 at her hospice care facility in Cathedral City.

Born to Marge and Ray Brocklehurst in 1927, she grew up in Southern California, and loved the sea and mountains.

Leigh began her visits to Idyllwild in 1950 and eventually moved in 1990 into the cabin her father built in the Saunders Meadow area. After living on the Hill for more than 30 years, Leigh entered into hospice in 2020. She was a true survivor, defying all odds, all the way up to the end.

Leigh was well known for being a spitfire gal with a witty and wicked sense of humor, as well as for being very generous with friends and various causes. She loved living in the wilderness and being a part of Idyllwild’s mountain community.

Leigh was an avid reader of mystery and detective novels, always happy to lend her books. She was a Mensa Society member and used her analytical abilities to become an accomplished CPA at a time when there were very few women in the field.

Her love for dogs was endless, always choosing to adopt from rescue services. Her artistic abilities shined through her photography, architectural designs, gardening and cooking.

I want to thank those who repaid Leigh’s kindness in taking the time and making the effort to keep in touch by visiting her or simply phoning her during her three-year hospice stay in the desert.
