Christina C. Farman, Pine Cove resident since 2002, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2018.

Christina was born in Washington, D.C. in 1943, the second daughter of Carl H. Farman, a senior United States government official, and Elsa Farman. She spent her high school years at the Sacred Heart boarding school in Montreal. She graduated from the University of San Diego with a Bachelor of Science in chemistry.

After graduation, deeply devoted to her Catholic faith, she volunteered for a teaching position with the Sacred Heart community in Uganda. There, she spent a year teaching at the local Catholic High School.

On her return from the African continent, she moved to the Chicago area where she worked as social worker and supervisor with the Illinois Department of Human Services.

In the early 1980s, Christina moved to Oklahoma City to assist her beloved sister, Elsa L. Farman (Major, USMC), as they established Elsa’s private law firm there.

Christina was a poet all her adult life. When her sister’s law firm was flourishing, Christina followed her dream and enrolled in the creative writing program at the University of Central Oklahoma. She graduated with a Master of Art degree and published a well-received volume of poetry.

In 1997, she moved back to San Diego where she had felt at home ever since her college years. In 2002, she decided to move to the Pine Cove-Idyllwild area. She loved “The Hill” and the kindness of this mountain community.

Christina remained committed to the religious of the Sacred Heart family and to the welfare of her friends in Uganda and Kenya whom she continued to support financially with great generosity throughout her life.

She loved the outdoors, was an avid camper in her younger years and had a special love for the Hawaiian island of Kauai.

Christina was a quiet person with a good sense of humor, an incredibly sharp mind and a big heart. Her most outstanding quality was her compassion for those in need and the kindness with which she treated others.

Having no children of her own, she was a beloved member of the Morris family: John, Tonya and their children Tiffany, Cynthia and Jeroid, who is her godson. She became a trusted and cherished aunt and friend to those children during their growing-up years.

Christina’s last year was made difficult by various illnesses; during that time, the Morris family became her invaluable emotional and practical support.

She will always remain honored and cherished by those who knew and loved her. May she rest in peace.
