Shirley M. Wood, 91, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2019, at home with daughters Linda Richerson and Karen McCoy by her side. Granddaughter Jennifer Wood, grandsons Robert Whaley and Samule Southwick, and grandaughter Sara DeNault also were beside her.
Shirley has lived in Idyllwild since she was 8 years old, moving here with her parents Chester A. (C.A.) and Luella Hoffman, brother Richard, and sisters Marjorie and Phyllis Thomas of Hemet.
Husband Lloyd G. Wood and son Allan “Douglas” Wood preceded her in death.
Shirley was a homemaker all her life and an active member of her church, Shiloh, here in Idyllwild.
She was blessed with hundreds of friends over the years here in Idyllwild and had nine grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
We all will miss her friendly smiles and words of encouragement. (Her Saturday 9 a.m. ladies group at the Idyllwild Beauty Salon owned by Cindy Alert, former daughter-in-law.) It will seem empty without her.
Graveside services at San Jacinto Cemetery were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, and a Memorial Service will be held at the Idyllwild Community Church at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22.
