Joseph Brugman, 82, an Idyllwild resident for seven years, passed away Saturday, July 28, 2001, at his home in Fern Valley.

Mr. Brugman was born July 30, 1919, in Seattle, Wash. He graduated from the University of Washington School of Mines with a degree in engineering.

He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and retired from the Air Force Reserves as a lieutenant colonel.

Mr. Brugman lived in Whittier, Calif., for 40 years where he worked in the aerospace industry.

Since retiring, he volunteered at the Idyllwild Library, was treasurer of Friends of the Idyllwild Library and supervised the U.S. Census for 2000 for the Idyllwild area.

He also was a priest in the Apostolic Orthodox Catholic Church and ministered to retirement home residents in Hemet.

Mr. Brugman is survived by his wife Lorraine; a son, Joseph Brugman Jr.; a daughter, Suzanne; a son, Thomas; a daughter, Teresa; and nine grandchildren, all residing in Southern California.

A memorial service was held Thursday, Aug. 2 at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Rolling Heights.
