On Dec. 3, the Art Alliance of Idyllwild (AAI) held its third-annual Christmas Art Kit Gift Giveaway in front of the post office. After six months of gathering over 300 items and putting them into over 160 art kits, AAI gave them away to local parents, grandparents and children. The kits were arranged in age groups from ages 4-plus to 13-plus, including offering professional art kits to older students.

AAI is grateful to the Ruth and Joseph C. Reed Foundation and the Idyllwild Community Fund for their generous grants for this year’s giveaway.

AAI Treasurer Neil Jenkins commented that “this is my favorite AAI event each year, enjoying the smiles on faces when people learn that the kits are free.”

Santa’s elves also dropped off art supplies and kits to the Home School Art Class at the library Dec. 1.

AAI is offering five to six art class scholarships for the 2023 Idyllwild Arts Summer Program. The classes for kids and teens may include visual arts, photography, theatere, music, printmaking, fashion design and writing. Parents may contact AAI at artinidyllwild@gmail.com for a grant application. These programs fill up quickly, so act soon.

Visit artinidyllwild.org for more details on this and other events. The AAI board is meeting shortly to discuss AAI’s 2023 events. Send in your ideas.
