John David Roberts, known as Dave, of Hemet, died Wednesday, May 2, 2001, at his residence. He was 78.

A former Idyllwild resident for 14 years, he had lived in Hemet the past two years.

He was a Pasadena resident for 30 years prior to his move to Idyllwild.

Mr. Roberts was born June 30, 1922, in Decatur, Ill.

He served in the United States Army from 1944 to 1946. He worked for Shater Co. in Los Angeles as a sheet metal worker (air conditioners) for 40 years.

Mr. Roberts had been a member of the Pasadena Methodist Church for 20 years and a member of the Hemet Unified Methodist Church for 13 years.

He was a member of the Seven Hills Golf Club of Hemet for 10 years where he had achieved two hole-in-ones.

He enjoyed golfing, crossword puzzles and reading.

Memorial services were at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 5, with burial at Riverside Cemetery in Appleton, Wis. Pastor Jim Hall officiated. McWane Family Funeral Home of Hemet handled arrangements.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Harriet Roberts of Hemet; two sons, Richard Dressell of Hailey, Idaho and Billy Roberts of Torrance; two daughters, Linda Teague of Tuskahoma, Okla. and Beverly Pluim-Dressell of Camarillo, Calif.; a brother, Stanley Roberts of La Crescenta; two sisters, Marjorie Hutton of Santa Barbara and Norma Gass of Camarillo; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

The family suggests donations be made to the Ramona VNA, a hospice or a charity of your choice.
