During the Rattlesnake Avoidance Training on Saturday, Axel, owned by David Cavanaugh, walks right up to this Southern Pacific rattlesnake (which is muzzled with medical tape and drained of its venom). Erick Briggs, trainer, takes the dogs through several stations, beginning with meeting a baby rattler, learning the scent of a rattler by some rattlesnake skin on the ground, a rattler rattling behind a rock, and finally encountering an adult rattler on the ground in front of them. We administered Benadryl and sent the frantic owner to Hemet, thinking she could get treatment there. Both Ron Kimmerle, 49, and Taylor Dravenstatt, 20 are on trial for burglary and receiving stolen property. Their Aug. 6 felony settlement conference was continued to Tuesday, Aug. 21, at Southwest Justice Center in Murrieta on request of defense counsels. Kimmerle remains in jail. Dravenstatt, now represented by a private attorney, is out on bail.
