Bohemio, a sizzling Latin jazz and Santana tribute band from the Coachella Valley jump-starts Ken Dahleen’s popular community event, the Idyllwild Summer Concert Series. Opening night, Thursday, July 7, in addition to launching what has come to be a highly anticipated summer entertainment event, also honors the 100th birthday of noted Idyllwild artist, environmentalist and journalist, Ernie Maxwell.
Bohemio plays “music for the soul,” and covers wide range of Latin/American music styles including Cumbia, Salsa, Reagatone, romantic ballads and classic rock, and especially the music of Carlos Santana. The band has toured internationally, played desert casinos, and Disney’s California Adventure Park. “The band is tight,” said sax man and vocalist Juan Hernandez.
Joining Hernandez are Jacinto Cancino on drums and vocals, Ruben Cancino on keyboard and vocals, Michael Cancino on percussion and vocals, Lupe Garza on bass guitar and Manny Torres on lead guitar.
Opening for Bohemio at 6:15 p.m. are Paul Carman and Friends. HotFlash takes the stage at the Idyllwild Community Center site at 7 p.m. The event is free to the public.
Owing to a late fundraising start, the series is in even greater need than usual for sponsors and funds. Dahleen has a budget of nearly $20,000 for this seven concert series, and only $5,750 on hand at this time. Contact Dahleen for available sponsorship levels and promotional perks. Checks, made payable to “Idyllwild Summer Concerts Inc.” can be mailed to Idyllwild Summer Concerts Inc. P.O. Box 1542, Idyllwild, CA 92549. Contact Dahleen directly at (951) 659-2229 for more information.
Next week features an Antonio Carlos Jobim tribute from Colin Wenhardt and his Bossa Nova Quintet.
