Coming and goings characterize the cyclical dance that changes Idyllwild’s business face. With the advent of fall, those leaving at least one aspect of the business scene are Emily, Mike and Martha Pearson who retired as co-owners of the Red Kettle as of Oct. 2. Ashley Stewart, wife of owner Shane Stewart, will manage the longtime eatery. Emily said she and Mike will continue to operate their tree business.

Lauren Devore, owner of B’s Mountain of Books, will exit the scene turning over the independent bookstore to Julie Johnson, who plans to rename it.

And finally, Idyllwild Vacation Rentals has a new owner who will insure that all rentals are leak free. New owner Richard “Dick” Rennick, founder of the Palm Springs-based company American Leak Detection (ALD) with 360 franchises in 44 states and 13 foreign countries, will move into the space in Village Centre formerly occupied by Wildwood IG07 Gallery.

“We hope to be in by [Oct. 25],” said Rennick. Rennick founded ALD in 1974 and has provided consulting services to franchise-based systems including the Dwyer Group, Great Harvest Bakeries and Roto-Rooter. He currently heads TEAM Rennick (www.teamrennick.com), a company formed to mentor and coach young entrepreneurs in how to start franchise businesses.
