A single vehicle went 100 feet over the side on Highway 243 north of Twin Pines sometime after 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28. The crash ignited a fire in the same area as the 2006 Esperanza Fire. According to the CAL FIRE incident report, 11 engines and 53 firefighters responded and quickly extinguished the blaze that had spread to one-quarter of an acre.
According to California Highway Patrol Public Information Officer Darren Meyer, the driver, Greg Moon, 58, of Yucca Valley, suffered moderate injuries and was transported by ambulance to Desert Regional Medical Center.
A passenger in the car, Linda Moon, also of Yucca Valley, was not injured. Moon’s 1995 Toyota 4-Runner was badly damaged. No other vehicles were involved and the cause of the collision has not been determined.
