On Feb. 7, at about 9:30 a.m., deputies from the Hemet Station of Riverside County Sheriff's Department responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon. The incident occurred near the intersection of Gassner Road and Roger Lane, in Anza not far from the Anza RV Resort.

When deputies and California Highway Patrol Officers arrived, they found a man suffering from apparent gunshot wounds at the location. Cal-Fire responded to provide medical attention, but the man succumbed to his injuries at the scene. On Friday, authorities released the name of the victim, 20 year old Anza resident Trevor Michael Slusher.

Investigators from the Riverside County Central Homicide Unit responded and assumed the investigation. The Riverside County Coroner's Bureau also responded to take possession of the victim's remains.
