Dr. Raul Ruiz, Democrat, challenger for Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack's seat for the new Congressional district 36 that includes Idyllwild, will be in town on Thursday, March 1 at 10 a.m. Part of Ruiz's district-wide "Listening Tour," the doctor hopes to learn what issues are of most importance to Hill residents. The event, what Ruiz said is first of many visits to the Hill, will be held at Town Hall.

A distillation of Ruiz's background can be found on his website, www.drraulruiz.com. An overview includes:

Graduated magna cum laude at UCLA;

"Became the first Latino to receive three graduate degrees from Harvard University – a Medical Doctorate, a Masters in Public Policy and a Masters in Public Health;

Returned to the Coachella Valley in 2007 to work as an emergency physician at Eisenhower Medical Center, the Coachella Valley’s only nonprofit hospital;

Senior Associate Dean at the University of California, Riverside School of Medicine;

Founder and director of the Coachella Valley Healthcare Initiative;
Founded a pre-med mentorship program, the Future Physician Leaders program, for students from underserved communities who, like him in 1990, want to become doctors and return to their community to serve;

Helped open clinics giving free care and health education to underserved communities throughout the Coachella Valley

  1. And so may the item about Dr. Raul Ruiz in Idyllwild appear in the Desert Sun, without a picture of Ms Mack, currently mostly of Florida, inserted without cause into Ruiz' listening talk, his chance to speak his piece? Will he get his chance at a "fair and balanced" presentation in a DS article ?
    I wait, I wait.
