Idyllwild resident Erec Von Seggern won the California Federation of Woman’s Club Young Musicians’ 2012 Music Competition. Erec is a sophomore at Hemet High School. His band director, Dan Bolton, informed him about the scholarship opportunity which the Hemet Woman’s Club sponsors. Three awards on the state level were presented — one to a vocalist, one to a pianist and one to an instrumentalist.

Erec, an accomplished flute player, was the instrumentalist who won the $500 scholarship over all the other state entries. He had to submit a CD with two pieces — one a classical selection and a second selection of his choice.

Erec plans to use the money for additional flute lessons. Erec, a member of the Hemet High School band, performed this weekend with the Redlands Youth Symphony as featured soloist.
