A special Health, Wellness and Safety Forum specifically for seniors begins at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 27, at the Idyllwild Nature Center. County 3rd District Supervisor Jeff Stone, in partnership with the county’s Office on Aging, organized and is sponsoring the forum.

The speakers include Michele Wilham, assistant director of the county Office on Aging, who will discuss aging well and living long; Ryan Uhlenkott, regional manager, Riverside County Adult Protective Services CARE Program, will address preventing and reporting fraud, abuse, and neglect of older adults; and Gina McGough and Zuzzette Bricker from the county Office of Emergency Services, will discuss and present suggestions for disaster preparedness on a budget.

Supervisor Stone will also attend, along with his Chief of Staff Verne Lauritzen and Legislative Assistant Opal Hellweg.

Stone has also arranged for some free onsite health checks. Prime Care will provide cholesterol screening and blood pressure checks from 12:30 until 3 p.m.

Complimentary starter disaster preparedness kits for seniors will be available, but they are limited to one per household.

“Your health, wellness, and safety are important so please join us for a free senior forum for more information on taking care of yourself, your friends and your family,” said Stone, who initiated the idea for the forums. The Idyllwild forum will be the fourth in the Third District. Other forums have been held in Homeland, Temecula and San Jacinto. In the future, a fifth will occur in Murrieta.

The forum will take place at the County’s Idyllwild Nature Center, 25225 Highway 243, Idyllwild. For information about the site call (951) 867-3800 or [email protected]. If you require ADA accommodations please contact Lynette Worrell at (951) 867-3800 or (800) 510-2020 or TDD to (951) 697-4699.
