Filing for a Hemet Unified School District trustee position in the November election closed Wednesday, Aug. 15. The original Aug. 10 deadline was extended five days because incumbent Charlotte Jones decided not to seek re-election. Jones was first elected a HUSD trustee in 1996. She will finish her fourth term in December.

After the new deadline closed, five candidates qualified for the November ballot.

Incuambents Marilyn Forst and Lisa DeForest are running for re-election. Forst served two terms from 1998 to 2006, when she was defeated for re-election. She overcame this setback by winning her third four-year term in 2008.

DeForest was elected trustee in 2008 and was the leading vote getter during that election.

Three new candidates — John Graham, Boyd Lachlan Roberts and Jim Smith — also submitted candidacy papers and qualified for the ballot.

Smith is a former HUSD administrator. Graham, a former member of the Hemet Teachers Association, and Roberts say they are businessmen.
