Town Hall Sports Coordinator Jeremy Teeguarden reported on Town Hall Adult softball for Championship Week of Aug. 20.

Ajax upset regular season champions and defending champs, Creekstone Inn, to win the 2012 Town Hall Adult Softball championship.

In a tight, 14-10 victory in the final game of the series, Ajax again claims the championship — its sixth trophy since 2006. Creekstone ended the Ajax run of five consecutive softball championship last year, but couldn’t start a streak of its own.

Hitting superlatively, Jenny Espinosa drove in the first run of the game in the top of the first inning. She continued to scorch the ball throughout the game.

Ajax jumped to an early five-run lead. But Creekstone Inn started chipping away at the lead immediately. Josh White drove in a run with a deep sacrifice fly as Creekstone scored two runs in the bottom of the first.

An Ajax scoring situation was lost when Creekstone’s Brennan Priefer turned a double play in the top of the second. And Creekstone stranded another runner on third in their half of the inning.

In the bottom of the third inning, Creekstone claimed the lead with five runs. The key hit was White’s three-run homerun.

Ajax, behind Raymond Marcus’s two-run homer in the top of the fourth tied the score at 7 runs each.

Creekstone re-took the lead in its half of the fourth with one run.

In the top of the next inning, Ajax recaptured the lead for good with four runs. Charlie Clayton got the go ahead hit When the fifth inning ended, Ajax still had the lead 11-10.

They scored two in the sixth with Art Torrez’s homerun and another in the top of the seventh while holding Creekstone scoreless in both innings to claim the championship, two games to one.

Creekstone had won the first game of the series (10-3) and Ajax won the second (16-14) to setup Thursday night’s season ending championship game.
