The Idyllwild Garden Club is joining with other forces on and off the Hill to take a proactive part in battling the Goldspotted oak borer infestation.

Club President Toni Berthelotte says that many of the club members will be manning phones and placing call backs to answer questions and give valuable information to callers. The Garden Club has also placed information and web-links on its website (

Members will reach out beyond the local community via their personal email and social network lists to spread the word and ask others to avoid bringing oak firewood to our mountains.

The Garden Club’s board of directors has other plans in the works to expand this call to arms, says Berthelotte. Phone questions may be called in from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. to (951) 659-3850. (If you get voice-mail, leave a name and number and someone will call you back as quickly as possible.)
