The Idyllwild Fire Department responded to two small fires last week. The first occurred on Wednesday evening, Feb. 13, and the second was Saturday night, Feb. 16. Both were chimney fires.

On Wednesday, the department responded to a call from the 26300 block of Delano Drive, the Royal Pines Trailer Park. The crew found sparks coming from the chimney of the structure.

Upon investigation firefighters determined a chimney fire had occurred, the spark-arresting screen was missing from the chimney and the chimney and fireplace were in need of cleaning and inspection. No damage was identified and the engine returned to the station after about an hour on scene.

Three days later, IFPD sent an engine, ladder truck and an ambulance with six personnel to a chimney fire in the 55000 block of Pine Crest Avenue.

After arriving at the scene, personnel found a fire confined to the chimney of the structure and it was extinguished. There appeared to be no damage to the chimney or the structure.

All units, including Riverside County Fire and CAL FIRE were released within 45 minutes.
