


Soroptimist event raises $2,500 for Operation Safe House

Maya Lea, Idyllwild Arts alumna, performs her one-woman original play about sex trafficking in the United States, titled “For Sale.” The event was a great success and $2,300 was raised for Operation Safe House in Temecula.

When Deanna Bogart saw Vic Sirkin of Idyllwild (and a jazz fest volunteer) relaxing on the grass in the front row during her performance, she literally got “down and dirty,” bringing her lively entertainment directly to him and then throughout the audience during the 21st Jazz in the Pines at Idyllwild Arts last Sunday.
“Beyond Therapy,” Christopher Durang’s 1981 play, will be Conor O’Farrell’s next production for the benefit of the Idyllwild HELP Center. The previous productions — “The Odd Couple” and “Murder at the Howard Johnson’s” — were performed on Memorial Weekend, but, this year, late September is when the curtain rises. After six months of meetings, conversations and discussions, the Mountain Communities Fire Safe Council (FSC) has identified a very ambitious plan of action for the next several years.
A community potluck dinner, including a discussion about the Idyllwild Historic Preservation District, is being planned.
