Brenda Joyce Herndon Miller
Brenda Joyce Herndon Miller passed away Thursday, May 9, 2013, of complications of surgery after a prolonged illness. Born on Sept. 12, 1947, to Roy Lee and Francis Mae Herndon in San Francisco, Calif., Brenda was 65 years old at her death.

In a lifetime devoted to education, she served as teacher, mentor and administrator in colleges throughout California. She received her bachelor of science degree from California State University Los Angeles and a master’s in social work from Cal State Long Beach. She most recently served as the director of career counseling at the University of California Riverside. Brenda was particularly devoted to the enrichment of America’s immigrant communities from throughout the world.

Late in life her tender heart was touched by the plight of animals in need and she devoted her retirement years to the rescue and care of them.

Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter and sister, she will be greatly missed by all. She is survived by husband Brent Alden Miller; sons Robert Bruce Miller and John Alden Miller; grandchildren Brandon Harley Miller, Courtney Maria Miller and Bradley Alden Miller; her brothers Billy Nelson, Charlie Nelson, Allen Bado, David Bado, Danny Fisher and Joe Robinson; and sisters Linda Kimbrough and Lisa Bado.

A funeral service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday, May 19, 2013, at Idyllwild Community Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Brenda’s name to Living Free, P.O. Box 5, Mountain Center, CA 92561.

As in life, Brenda no doubt has found a place in heaven as a faithful shepherdess of his flock.
