The Soroptimist International of Idyllwild’s current fundraiser is Beehive Hairstyle on the Hill. The contest will be held during the Lemon Lily Festival, July 13 and 14. All contestants will be introduced at the bluegrass stage during the festival.
“We are searching for the most outrageous, outstanding, elaborate, extraordinary, elegant, extravagant, exaggerated, fanciful, flamboyant, grandiose, lavish, preposterous, flashy, creative, wild and wonderful hairstyle,” according to the Soroptimists’ publicity.
This is return to the popular hair creations of the 1960s. Prizes for first, second and third place will be awarded in two categories: Natural Hair, and Wigs and Things.
The number of votes will determine the winners. Each vote costs $1.
Contestants need to provide a title for their hairdo and a short description, including either the theme or inspiration.
Each contestant will earmark their votes to one of several possible Soroptimist projects: House of Hope in Desert Hot Springs and Banning; Operation SafeHouse, dedicated to rescuing victim of human trafficking; the Soroptimist International of Idyllwild Scholarship Fund; or Alternatives to Domestic Violence, supporting families who are escaping an abusive lifestyle.
