On Sunday, June 30, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Riverside Mountain Rescue Unit was summoned to help an injured hiker. The RMRU team was lowered into Long Valley about midnight, according to Lee Arnson, RMRU member from Idyllwild.
Teresa Suarez, 60, of Oceanside, had fallen several times trying to get to San Jacinto Peak. Injured and exhausted, she was unable to make it down the mountain.
“She was completely wiped out; 100 percent exhausted,” Arnson said.
The RMRU team found Suarez about 3 a.m. Monday. They treated her and stayed with her overnight. Monday morning, the Mt. San Jacinto State Park trail crew and RMRU wheeled her on a litter out of the wilderness to the top of the Palm Springs Tram.
