Jim Crandall, Palms to Pines Golf Association handicap chair, provided this report about the Friday, July 26, golf tournament at Diamond Valley Golf Club.

The results determined the top eight point finishers for the 2012-13 season. They will go into match-play playoffs in August, September and October to determine the club champion who will then play in the Southern California Tournament of Club Champions in December.

The top eight competing are:

  2. Bill Sanborn 30.08 points
  3. Pete Capparelli 22.83 points
  4. John LoGuidice 20 points
  5. Mike Feyder 18.08 points
  6. Gary Brown 17.5 points
  7. Dan Slattery 16 points
  8. Jim Crandall 15.25 points

The first round of the playoffs is Friday, Aug. 23 at The Country Club at Soboba Springs. Pairings will match Widerynski vs. Crandall, Sanborn vs. Slattery, Capparelli vs. Brown, and LoGiudice vs. Feyder.

The August tourney also will mark the beginning of the 2013-14 season for point accumulation toward next year’s playoffs.

In the regular July 26 tourney, Widerynski (course handicap 19) shot a net 64 to take first place and top the final 2012-13 points total. Capparelli (23) took second with a net 67. Chuck Alkire (13) took third with a net 68, Gary Leong (16) took fourth with a net 71. And Feyder (22) and Sanborn (28) tied for fifth with net 73s.

The closest-to-the-pin winners on the four par 3s were Widerynski on hole four, Capparelli on holes six and 13, and Alkire on hole 17.

Points are awarded at each tournament as follows: first place, 6 points; second place, 4 points; third place, 3 points; fourth place, 2 points; fifth place, 1 point. Also, one-half point is awarded to everyone who participates.

A member has to compete in at least five regular-season tournaments and have a handicap no greater than 24.4 in order to qualify for the playoffs. The club is a member of the Southern California Golf Association and is sanctioned to establish SCGA handicaps for members.
