Last week, Riverside County Judge James Hawkins ordered Cristin Smith, 25, to stand trial for the murder of three Pinyon Pines residents in 2006.

A Riverside County grand jury has already indicted Smith’s friend, Robert Pape. The grand jury did indict Smith, but because he was under age 18 at the time of the crimes that indictment had to be dismissed and Smith had to be arraigned in front of a judge.

The night of Sept. 17, 2006, Becky Friedli, 18, her mother, Vicki Friedli, 53, and Vickie’s boyfriend, Jon Hayward, 55, were found dead, with Becky’s body burning in a wheelbarrow outside the house. The other bodies were found inside the burning home.

Both men were arrested and charged on March 11. Smith was ordered to return to court for an information arraignment on April 9. Pape’s arraignment has been postponed until April 16.
