The Stratford Players of Idyllwild announces it has been granted rights to perform the 2013 Tony Award winner for Best Play, “Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike.”

Last month, the Los Angeles production finished its extended run at the Mark Taper Forum. “I am thrilled!” said Marsha Kennedy, Stratford Players’ artistic director. “‘Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike’ is exactly the caliber of play we want to present. That we were able to acquire the rights to perform it so soon after its run at the forum was an unexpected surprise.”

“Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike” is a comedy of sibling rivalry by one of America’s leading playwrights, Christopher Durang. It’s slated for performance at the Caine Learning Center during the last weekend in July and first two weekends in August. Marshall Smith, who has been engaged as director, calls it, “One of the funniest — possibly the funniest — play I’ve seen in decades of theatergoing.” Smith is in the process of selecting his cast to begin rehearsals in June.

Stratford Players is currently at work on its May production of Tennessee Williams’ “Night of the Iguana.” For more about the Stratford Players, visit stratfordplayers.com.
