Caltrans will be making road repairs on Highway 243 from mile post marker 1 to 5.25 near the Forest Service to near Point of Rocks Drive this week.

One-way traffic control on the highway  will occur from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday to Thursday, July 8 to 10.

Caltrans will be installing recessed pavement markers.

    For more than 30 years, Idyllwild citizens, led by the ever present Robert Priefer, have made numerous attempts to build a community center facility. As far back as 1982, a consortium of contractors and recreation professionals spent one year researching similar facilities in Tahoe, Mammoth and other mountain communities before designing the High Country Recreation Center. Their dream of a fitness center, handball courts, and a multipurpose room for aerobic dance, plays and other activities was dashed when investors, motivated by expectations of short-term profits, decided that it would take 10 years to break even on the $2 million price tag.

  • Brush fire breaks out on Easter night

    At about 10 p.m. Easter night, a 75-foot-by-75-foot vegetation fire in heavy brush broke out on Saunders Meadow Road, south of the Idyllwild Transfer Station. The Idyllwild Fire Department quickly contained it, said Chief Patrick Reitz. The U.S. Forest Service responded to the scene and the two agencies controlled the Saunders Fire. The Forest Service is investigating the cause of the fire.
