Idyllwild Rotary voted to sponsor a Boy Scout troop on the Hill. Application was made for a troop charter.

Friday evening entertainment could be found at Sportland Park where a buffet dinner and three games of bowling could be had for $3.85.

A petition signed by 101 “property owners and voters of the Pine Cove area” protested any inclusion of Pine Cove in a possible move toward incorporation with Idyllwild.
40 years ago - 1974
Famed dancer Bella Lewitzky and her distinguished dance company appeared at Bowman Theatre at the Idyllwild School of Music and the Arts.

A dedication ceremony was held for the new Mt. San Jacinto Senior Center on Franklin Drive. Nearly 100 local senior citizens as well as county officials and community leaders attended. Senior luncheons were being served daily at the site.

A bid by Roy and Kay Johnson, owners of Pine Cove Center, to operate the Pine Cove branch post office, was accepted by the San Bernardino Sectional Center, allowing the post office to remain open at its present location.

The community was invited to an open house to celebrate the first birthday of WNKI, the Idyllwild-area emergency radio station.
20 years ago - 1994
Plans were being finalized for the first Idyllwild jazz festival to be held in August at the Idyllwild School of Music and the Arts. Ticket prices were set at $15 for adults and $12 for children.

When former U.S. Attorney General Janet Reno attended Idyllwild’s Fourth of July Parade, she overheard someone comment about how she looked familiar and then another person responding that Reno was the checkout person at the local supermarket. The story appeared in many Southern California newspapers.

Nearly 1,000 firefighters were battling the Verbenia Fire. Almost 4,000 acres were burning at the northern base of the San Jacinto mountains.

Idyllwild HELP Center Director Karen Patterson announced that IHC was able to provide mortgage and rent assistance to qualifying Idyllwild residents through a $15,000 grant from Catholic Charities of San Bernardino and Riverside Counties. “These grants are especially important in these harsh economic times,” said Beverly Earl, CC director for San Bernardino County.
