

Weekend fire scare on Thomas Mountain

Cal Fire Helicopter 301 drops water on a small lightning fire on Thomas Mountain late Sunday afternoon. Responding units from the U.S. Forest Service and Cal Fire contained the 10-foot by 10-foot fire.

The CHP reports two “mud, dirt or rock” slides affecting travel to or from the hill. One was reported at 6:10 p.m. Tuesday on Highway 74 near Pinyon Drive as five 10-inch diameter rocks in the westbound roadway with one vehicle pulled over to the side.
