Idyllwild Rotary Anns Club is seeking applicants for the Spirit of Tahquitz Grant.

Grant criteria are as follows:

• Must be a single woman living on her own in Idyllwild/Pine Cove, raising a child or children (under age 18) with financial needs she cannot fulfill. This includes grandmothers and aunts, as well as mothers.

• Must not be used for substance abuse intervention.

• Applicants will remain anonymous to all Rotary Ann members other than grant committee.

• Application deadline is Nov. 30, 2014. Grants to be distributed by end of day Dec. 25, 2014.

The Spirit of Tahquitz Grant is administered by Idyllwild Rotary Anns on behalf of a generous anonymous donor. Applicants and recipients also are anonymous. A three-member Rotary Anns committee accepts, reviews and interviews all qualified applicants. Applicants and recipients are all confidential.

The Spirit of Tahquitz Grant gives $3,000 to be distributed as the committee deems appropriate to one or multiple applicants.

As an example, past recipients have received financial assistance with propane and electric bills, rent, along with medical, transportation and education help, plus food and clothing.

The Soroptimist International of Idyllwild awards two $500 scholarships to women from the mountain communities enrolled at Mt. San Jacinto Community College or College of the Desert. Applicants are to inquire at the respective institution for information.

Also, the Soroptimist International of Idyllwild Award is presented to women either enrolled in a degree, certificate or license program. The award amount is $1,000 and may be used for expenses related to completing the educational program, such as tuition, books, transportation expenses or child care.

The Mary Austin Memorial Award is in honor of a former member and is endowed annually by the Doug and Mary Austin Trust Fund. Two $500 grants are awarded to women in the community who exhibit need. For example, grants have been given to a grandmother raising her grandchildren, an alumnus of the House of Hope and a woman actively involved in community volunteerism whose family was experiencing severe hardship.
