A one-vehicle traffic crash resulted in the death of a Mountain Center man Monday evening about a half-mile east of Keen Camp Road on Highway 74. California Highway Patrol Officer Mike Murawski said the man was driving his Toyota Tacoma westbound near the speed limit when he drifted off the highway and hit a tree at about 5:45 p.m. No passengers were in the truck. A one-vehicle traffic crash resulted in the death of a Mountain Center man Monday evening about a half-mile east of Keen Camp Road on Highway 74.

California Highway Patrol Officer Mike Murawski said the man was driving a Toyota Tacoma westbound near the speed limit when he drifted off the highway and hit a tree at about 5:45 p.m. No passengers were in the truck.

A nurse reported the crash and said the man was unconscious and trapped in the vehicle.  John Harvey, 71, was pronounced dead at 6:16 p.m.

A motorcycle vs. truck resulted in one person with moderate injuries being transported by air ambulance to an area hospital Saturday, Jan. 17.

According to CHP Officer Osteen, Zachary Morris, 20, of Oceanside, was riding a Yamaha 600 eastbound on Highway 74 west of McCall Park Road when he collided with a 2007 Dodge Ram driven by Ryan Dallin, 40, of Menifee.

Osteen had no further information about the cause of the collision or injured parties.

Cal Fire reported that one of the individuals was injured but a spokesperson would not identify the patient due to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.
