Basketball

Town Hall Sports Coordinator Richard Mozeleski gave these reports on Kids Basketball:

In the 7- to 9-year-old division, the Killer Crocs have tightened things up with two wins this week to go into a first place tie with the Ninjas. The Crocs’ first week record of 0-1 is now at 4-3, riding on the back of Brody Posey’s prolific scoring.

In the 9- to 11-year-old division, Jo’An’s Heat is running smoothly at 7-0 behind Cody Fogel’s steady passing, scoring and “pick-pocket” defense. Leigh’s Purple Penguins are steadying their ship, moving from last place the first week to second place this week.

This Presidents Day week, all engines are cooling for the holiday break and return for one more week of regular season play, and then one week of playoffs the first week of March. Stay tuned; these fast-paced games are going to affect the weather up here with their own “wind conditions.”

Also this week is the return of Adult Basketball via 3-on-3 round up. The league’s return behind the energy and effort of Bo Dagnall was very satisfying getting 20-, 30-, 40-, 50- and 60-something year olds out of the house, and in some cases (as usual), into a doctor’s office or two. Anyway, a break from a “honey do” list is always a welcome thing. Thanks, Bo.

So, this year’s championship team were the “Men in Black” of Matt and Justin Nunn with their trusty side kick Ryan Priefer. Their two-out-of-three games victory over Buddy Beagle’s scrappy crew brought home the 2015 trophy. In all fairness, the Beagle team was playing shorthanded, missing their power forward, so thanks again to Bo and the players for a successful return of adult hoops to the Hill.

Town Hall Adult Coed Volleyball Coordinator Ginger Dagnall gave these standings for the teams:

Last week was a short one but the games were juicy.

Idyllwild Garage played Forest Lumber on Monday and the upset went to Forest Lumber. Lumber played tough against hard hitters and servers to win three of the four games.

Tuesday, Idyllwild Pizza Co. beat Idyllwild Inn in four matches, only winning by 2 points in three games. Both teams were playing scrappy and digging lots of balls.

Come support your local adult volleyball players. It’s much more fun with an audience. Monday to Thursday games are held at 7:15 p.m. at Idyllwild School gymnasium. The championship is March 7 at Idyllwild School.
