Dave Robb of Idyllwild played at Pechanga golf course in Temecula on Tuesday last week. At the par-3 17th, he stroked a downhill 7-iron about 166 yards. It bounced a foot in front of the pin, rolled toward the hole, momentarily stopped, then dropped in from the back side for a hole-in-one. Oddly enough, he had just posted an 11 on the previous hole, but still shot 89 for the round.

“I had a crazy round — a hole-in-one, two birdies, an 8 and an 11 — quite the roller coaster day,” he said.

This was his second career hole-in-one, the first coming 44 years ago in 1971. Robb won the most-recent Palms to Pines monthly tournament, as reported in last week’s Town Crier.
